Regular intake of vitamin D ensures normal absorption of calcium prevents its depletion through kidneys and facilitates prevention of rickets in children and osteoporosis in adults. Sufficient supply of this vitamin lowers the risk of infections, diabetes and allergic reaction, as well as cardiovascular disorders and hypertension; it supports immunity.
In pregnant women, administration of vitamin D reduces the risk of preeclampsia, gestational diabetes and bacterial vaginosis.

Physiological requirement for adults is 15 ug/day (600 MU), for persons over 65 years of age it is 20 ug/day (800 MU).
